The Secret to Hiring Top-Notch UI/UX Designers

If you're looking to hire a top-notch UI/UX designer, you need to know what to look for. Not all designers are created equal, and if you want someone who can help take your website or app to the next level, you need to make sure you're hiring the best. In this blog post, we'll discuss some of the key qualities that great UI/UX designers possess, and we'll give you some tips on how to find the right person for the job and make sure they have all the tools they need. So read on!

Let's start by talking about knowing what and who to look for. The first thing to ask yourself is, do I know the difference between a UX Designer and UI Designer?  If not, take a minute to educate yourself on the subject. Simply put, UI Designers focus on the look and feel of a site or app, while UX Designers focus on the user experience. Both are important, but if you're looking to hire someone for a specific project, you need to know which one you need or knowing if you need both.

If you know exactly what your product should do and understand fully the user experience you want to provide, you'll probably just need a UI Designer. However, if your company has clear branding /design guidelines and you are looking to find a software solution to an issue you don't know how to deliver then you'll need a User Experience designer.

It may be the case that you need both a UI and UX Designer.

Next, research salaries for UI Designers, UX Designers, and UI UX Designers. If you are hiring someone directly to the team I'm assuming you have a Product Manager that will be managing the UI UX talent and clearly understands your product, your business, and your customers. Remember that a UI UX Designer is not a product manager.

If you don't have a product manager you might be better off hiring an agency but hiring an agency is a whole blog post in itself so stay put.

Now it's just a matter of posting the job on LinkedIn, TotalJobs, Upwork, etc. Once candidates have applied make sure they share not only their portfolio of works but also of knowledge, there are Graphic Designers disguised as UI UX Designers.

A few keywords to keep in mind when interviewing these candidates and for you to educate yourself in UI UX:

  1. User Research
  2. Design Research
  3. Dark Patterns
  4. Mental Models
  5. Gamification
  6. User Journeys

UI

  2. Information Architecture
  3. Iconography
  4. Interaction Design
